Flexibility Exercises

Exercise Guidelines


Yoga poses and stretching have been shown to improve flexibility and decrease pain in people with OA.

Each pose offers 3 or 4 different options, the first option is easiest and then increases in difficulty.
The following exercises should be performed while holding each position for 30 seconds, 3 times.

Diaphragmatic Breathing: Sitting upright with legs crossed or sitting upright on a chair with hands on stomach and/or chest. Let stomach and chest move out into your hands as you breathe in, slowly breathe out and let your stomach shrink.
